I am Koji Yamasaki and I just assumed the office of President of NEC Mobiling as the successor to Katsuhiro Nakagawa.
Japan's mobile communications market has continued its expansion as it incessantly incorporates the latest in global technologies and has been instrumental in the evolution of the nation's ICT-based society symbolized by broadband and mobile Internet communications.
Now, a new wave of significant changes is hitting the market again, including growing interest in smartphones and other new devices that are rapidly penetrating the market, a move toward long-term evolution (LTE) as a new, unified platform, the allocation of additional frequency bands, a call for subscriber identity module (SIM) unlocking and other policy measures advocated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications designed to stimulate competition. These changes will create a new set of markets and bring new business opportunities, as well as new demand especially as ICT applications make greater inroads into households.
NEC Mobiling strives to expand its business and elevate its corporate value by proactively taking advantage of such market changes.
Concrete actions undertaken by the Mobile Sales Business are focused efforts to sell mobile handsets primarily by capturing replacement demand, physical expansion through M&As and tie-ups, and attempts to secure additional income streams, including greater sales of peripheral merchandise and products/services for home ICT applications.
The Mobile Service Business is rolling out actions aimed at capturing a greater share in the sub-market addressing the needs of the mobile network operators, who are increasingly required to enhance their communications networks to accommodate the growing number of smartphones. It is also exploring new business opportunities in a variety of areas including those related to system proposals and repairs.
